Designer Rei Kawakubo is the figurehead of Comme des Garçons, which is now a design empire - Kawakubo is regarded by many in the fashion industry as a genius. The often avant-garde label was created by Kawakubo in Tokyo in 1969 before he went with the brand to Paris in 1981 where it earned international acclaim with his deconstructed collection.
Today the Comme des Garçons brand encompasses both fashion and fragrances with a host of sub brands including PLAY, an irreverent and fun collection of street style garments, and SHIRT which is dominated with tailored items. These sit alongside the mainline collections and fragrance line. Comme des Garçons is worn by men and women with an eclectic style stance.
