A Bathing Ape, known as BAPE for short, is a Japanese clothing label created and founded inn 1993 by Tomoaki “Nigo” Nagao. Known just as Nigo, he is the creative and marketing genius behind one of the most converted brands, selling sought after limited edition cloths, bags and accessories. BAPE is part of the Japanese urban street wear phenomenon. Also creating lines for women, APEE and the women couture line, BAPY, the BAPE group are well know for their graphic design work and original artworks, that brace the front of T-shirts, sweatshirts and many other pieces. With Stores located in Hong Kong, London, New York and Los Angeles, BAPE is fast becoming a brand phenomenon.
Nigo’s early influences such as Elvis, The Beatles and hip-hop artists such as Run DMC, paved the way for his many celebrity collaborations and followers. Kanye West, Jay-Z and most famously Pharrell Williams are to name a few. The later having in 2005 helped Nigo launch the first "A Bathing Ape" store in New York. Nigo is also co-owner and head designer of Williams' Billionaire Boys Club.
It would only seem right that the company has their own record label (B) Ape Sounds.
This highly sort after and exciting brand is definitely making way for a new and interesting take on lifestyle and street wear.
