Alyssa Norton

Having starting her career as a painter, Alyssa Norton went on to study jewellery at the Institute of D’Allende in Mexico.  Inspired by minimalist artists Dan Flavin and Donald Judd, Alyssa’s early work focused on the effects of light on silver and coloured perspex; her first collection was made up of these structural forms.

The evolution of Alyssa’s work saw these hard, simple forms develop into more experimental pieces with a focus on with contrasting materials; fabric, painted neon plastics and metal. Her work began to reflect natural forms distorted through a futuristic lens.  Early on, these pieces were picked up by underground stores in New York, where Alyssa is based.

Mixed materials have been a constant in her designs; contrasting hard with soft and the natural with the synthetic. Concentrating on the relationship and movement of the materials themselves led Alyssa to create pieces incorporating silk, silver, chains and thread.  Many of the pieces can be worn in a variety of ways, taking the form of a necklace, bracelet, belt or hairpiece.

The response from those who wear Alyssa Norton jewellery is often very personal, with the pieces being experienced as adornment rather than accessory.  The jewellery brand has a strong following amongst top stylists and exclusive clients, especially for bespoke creations.  Alyssa’s jewels have been features in the international fashion press and feature films including ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. In 2006, Alyssa was recognised by the CFDA, receiving a nomination for the Swarovski Perry Ellis Award.
